What is Asbestos?

Asbestos is a naturally-occurring mineral mined from the earth and used in many products and materials. It is a known carcinogen and causes disease many years after exposure (called a latency period).

We provide legal help for individuals and their families diagnosed with asbestos disease.

We take legal action to pursue ALL possible sources of compensation:

    multi-defendant state court litigation
claims filed against individual asbestos bankruptcy trusts

We can answer your questions regarding asbestos cases.

As soon as you are diagnosed with mesothelioma or another asbestos disease, you should contact us. If it has been some time since you were diagnosed, or if the family member diagnosed has passed, we may still be able to help you and your loved ones.

You will pay nothing out of pocket for our services. We do not accept or require a down payment or retainer. We handle all of our asbestos cases on a contingent fee basis – we only get paid if you do.

We represent clients throughout the United States. However, we file the vast majority of our cases in Missouri and Illinois courts, where judges have vast dealings with mesothelioma legal matters and know how to move cases forward. In addition to lawsuits we file in state court, we file claims with asbestos bankruptcy trusts located throughout the country.

The O’Brien Law Firm has been extremely successful in getting claims filed and set for trial within 12 to 18 months. Most of our living clients who have been recently diagnosed have been able to bring their case to trial within less than a year.

Should your case go to trial, the O’Brien Law Firm strongly encourages you to attend court, but your presence is not mandatory. We are your legal representative and will advocate on your behalf in court to ensure the best outcome for you and your family.

Dealing with cancer at any age is not easy, and it is hard to stay focused and keep a good attitude. However, keeping a positive outlook and one’s sense of humor are two of

the things that O’Brien Law Firm client and cancer survivor Leo Dugo found helped him and his family get through his battle against Stage 4 cancer…especially the humor part.

Attitude Determines Altitude takes you through the Dugo family’s roller-coaster cancer journey in the form of his CaringBridge Journal entries and present-day thoughts. Sprinkled with humor, these writings helped lighten the bad days and made the good days better—and, hopefully, they will do that for you, too.

As Leo’s father, a pilot, taught his son, the aviation phrase “attitude determines altitude” translates into everything we do in life. In other words, the better our attitude, the better our life!
